The Incinerator

Skeleton key rooms at ValleySCARE were a new concept starting in the 2014 season, during which premium-pass-paying guests could get a premium or exclusive scare in one way or another. During the initial phase, they were so intense that liability forms came with each room.

The Londen Terror Incenerator was, to be boldly frank, highly inspired in design by the kinds of machines that quickly cremated people at Auschwitz. In it’s design, 4 guests would be allowed in at a time, then one guest in the machine at a time. The guest would lay down on a large rolling platform with a lid and holes in the bottom. The guest would be rolled inside and enclosed, and the ride operator/scare actor would hit a button to play this sound effect and set off a bunch of bright red and orange lights (appearing as if being burned alive to other guests who also happened to be waiting their turn in the room.). Then, perhaps anticlimactically, another scare actor would lift the lid to the “metal coffin” on the other side and scare them off.

All that said, let's talk about sound.

London Terror was, in it’s earlier years, a maze based off of steampunk lore.
Therefore, the sound effect needed a slow startup involving the turning of gears, pistons and steam. The instant roar of fire that causes “instant cremation” followed after a couple seconds, complete with screams. Then it was followed by squealing train brakes as the machine was forced to slow to a stop. All this needed to be quick, yet effective, and this particular clip was utilized for 2 years. I’m rather fond of it.
